The Walk of Peace will be held in Enkhuizen for the eighth time on Sunday, September 20, during National Peace Week.
In 2026, the theme of the national organization Pax is, just like last year: ‘Doing nothing is not an option.’ When we are confronted with injustice and exclusion, we cannot look away. We must actively seek connection, build bridges, and recognize people in their full humanity. For peace requires action: so create, build, advocate, act, demand peace. Ask yourself and others the question: ‘What are you doing for peace?’
Therefore, the working group in Enkhuizen is organizing a walk for young and old to seek connection between everyone, regardless of their cultural background. In Enkhuizen, we also use Loesje’s saying, ‘Don’t keep the peace, share it,’ to challenge the participants.
Through Madhouse, schools have been approached to participate in the project ‘We Make Peace Together’ created by us. In this way, we hope to welcome many children and their parents.
Walk-ins are at 1:30 PM at the Hertenkamp in Enkhuizen, where we will welcome the walkers with coffee, tea, and treats made by people from different cultures. At 2:00 PM, everyone will be officially welcomed, and a working group will introduce ‘de Troon’ with a number of personal stories to demonstrate that connection increases the sense of safety, which is necessary in a time when polarization is growing in our society, including in Enkhuizen. Motto: Listen, see, choose, and act! Looking out for one another, acknowledging others, and above all listening brings people closer together again.
The walk follows the wall to the Landje van Top at the Drom. Here, there is a Peace Booth with information and materials for adults and children. Young people from Cayen will provide a musical contribution. The route continues via the Dijk, the Venedie, and the Westerstraat to the Zuiderkerk. There, TGD, theatre group Drommedaris, will give a performance, and naturally, children will be involved. Subsequently, we walk back via Noorder Havendijk to the Hertenkamp. Here, we will pleasantly conclude the afternoon with music by Reuring, among others.
We hope that many fellow citizens, young and old, will join us. We will approach a number of groups separately, certainly including residents with a different cultural background.
