Summer opening of the Westerkerk

The church is open to visitors in the afternoons during the summer months. In 2026, the opening period is from June 2 to 20, and subsequently from July 7 to September 12, Tuesday to Saturday from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. On Sundays, it is open only on days when there is no organ concert. We appreciate a voluntary contribution for admission.

In addition to all the beauty of the church itself, such as the organ, the pulpit, the flagstone floor, and the Librije, you can also enjoy two special exhibitions. In June, this is ‘Living with the Dike,’ which highlights the importance of the West Frisian Ring Dike.

Starting in July, there is the exhibition ‘The Westerkerk as a Source of Inspiration.’ For this, two artists have drawn inspiration from the church to create ceramics, textiles, and prints. A church as a backdrop, subject, and source of inspiration all at once. You don’t see that every day. So step inside, look around, and just let the Westerkerk sink in for a moment. In addition, there is a second-hand book market starting June 9, this year also featuring books that evoke memories of the Zuiderzee.
