For nearly eighty years, Schilderkring Paulus Potter has been a regular meeting place for painting and drawing enthusiasts in Enkhuizen. Members gather weekly to work independently and under guidance on a variety of techniques. The common thread? The joy of creating, learning, and experimenting.

The painting circle has a rich history. In 1946, a year after the Second World War, a group of enthusiastic participants started drawing lessons at the State Secondary School, under the guidance of a drawing teacher. While the bar was set high back then, today, alongside personal development, meeting and inspiration are central.

What once began in the evening hours now takes place on Tuesday mornings in the large hall of Herfstzon. The association has consistently had twenty or more members since its founding. New participants are still welcome, thanks in part to affordable membership fees supported by subsidies.

Within the circle, there is ample room for personal style and experimentation. For instance, An Cordes, who has been involved for over thirty years, explores the expressive possibilities of chalk.

To mark its 80th anniversary, the painting circle is organizing a festive exhibition. The exhibition can be visited from September 12 to 20, 2026, at De Vermaning, Venedie 17.
