To mark this star festival, an observation evening is being held at the Orion Public Observatory, where the public, both youth and adults, is warmly welcome from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. You will then learn more about this “shooting stars”.
Orion is located on the first floor of the Streekbos Pavilion in the Het Streekbos nature reserve at Veilingweg 21 in Bovenkarspel.
During this viewing evening, a few beautiful specimens of stony and iron meteorites can be seen in the exhibition space, and there are continuous short presentations about the night sky in the planetarium; large telescopes are located in the dome room, with which the planet Saturn can be seen in clear, dark skies, and telescopes are also set up on the southern roof terrace to gaze at the night sky, where explanations are given about planets, stars, constellations, and nebulae, among other things.
Admission is free and no registration is required.
After this viewing evening, are you in the mood to perhaps go watch this meteor shower at home or at your holiday destination? You don’t need any special equipment for this; it is clearly visible with the naked eye. Just find a dark spot with a wide view. And simply enjoy it from your comfy chair or stretched out on a blanket on the floor.
Wishing you many clear evenings and many moments of enjoyment!
