55 jaar Freetime Old Dixie Jassband

The Freetime Old Dixie Jassband is celebrating its 55th anniversary. This will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7, with a special jazz evening at De Nieuwe Doelen in Enkhuizen. The Freetime Old Dixie Jassband shares the stage with three bands that, just like them, have a great love for traditional jazz: Oriental Jazz Band, The Stompers, and The Washboard Ramblers.

55 years of a unique sound

Since its founding in September 1971, the Freetime Old Dixie Jassband has established a recognizable place within the jazz scene of Enkhuizen and far beyond. Over the years, the band has developed its own Freetime sound, in which traditional New Orleans jazz and influences from other musical styles come together. Generations of musicians have been part of Freetime and found their way into jazz through the band. Involvement with the Enkhuizen Jazz Festival has also formed an important part of the band’s history for many years.

Four bands, one jazz night

For the anniversary, the band has deliberately chosen an evening with four different bands. The Oriental Jazz Band brings swinging New Orleans jazz, The Stompers guarantee energetic hot jazz, and The Washboard Ramblers combine New Orleans jazz with swing and blues.

An evening for jazz lovers – from near and far

For the regular jazz enthusiast from Enkhuizen and the surrounding area, the anniversary is a special home game. However, the organizers specifically hope to attract jazz lovers from outside the region to Enkhuizen as well. The historic city, the jazz tradition, and the anniversary concert combine to provide a wonderful reason for an evening or weekend away. For anyone coming to Enkhuizen on November 7 will not only hear four jazz bands but will also become part of a tradition that has continued for 55 years.
