Australian filmmaker Hannah (Olivia Colman) travels to Amsterdam with her non-binary teenager Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to visit her father Jim (John Lithgow), who left Australia years ago to live openly as a gay man. Frances immediately feels at home with ‘Jimpa’ and decides she wants to stay with him in the Dutch capital for a year to finish school. This unexpected wish forces Hannah to confront the complicated relationship with her father and critically re-evaluate her own views on parenthood and responsibility.
