Carols with the Martinus Cantorij
A festival of Nine Lessons & Carols
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is an English tradition that originated in 1880. Nine short readings are alternated with those beautiful and beloved Christmas Carols. The most famous version of the Lessons and Carols is performed annually on Christmas Eve by the famous Choir of King’s College in Cambridge.
On Sunday, 21 December at 5 pm, you can attend such a service in the Zuiderkerk.
This year, the Martinus Cantorij will sing Carols that are very varied in atmosphere and rhythm, from medieval to modern, from sweet to rousing. And, of course, a number of well-known Carols such as “Once in royal David’s city” and “Hark! The herald angels sing” can be sung along with.
The Martinus Cantorij from Zwaag has dedicated itself entirely to singing English cathedral music and has sung in many English cathedrals.
The Cantorij is led by Bas Halsema.
