CHORAL EVENSONG IN THE ZUIDERKERK
On Sunday, June 7, the Martinus Cantorij, conducted by Bas Halsema, will sing a Choral Evensong in the Zuiderkerk in Enkhuizen.
The piece that opens the Evensong occasionally brings jazz to mind. It is “I sat down under His shadow” by Edward C. Bairstow. Furthermore, the moving “All the ends of the World” by William Boyce and Psalm 66 are sung, among others, in that typical, unique way in which the psalms are sung in Choral Evensong.
The Martinus Cantorij will once again sing a number of services in England this coming autumn. We do this once every two years and have already sung in many leading cathedrals, but this time our choir trip is particularly special. St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle is world-famous. Countless royal weddings have taken place here, including that of Prince Harry and Meghan. Various British monarchs rest in the crypt, including Queen Elizabeth II.
On June 7, you can experience a Choral Evensong in the Zuiderkerk in Enkhuizen, just as it has sounded in Winston Castle for centuries.
A warm welcome to this celebration where the beauty of choral music, the depth of ancient texts, and the power of rituals come together in a beautiful old church.
Starts at 5:00 PM. Admission is free. There will be a collection afterwards.
