Summer vacation tips

Out and about with kids

In amusement park Sprookjeswonderland you walk among gnome houses and fairy-tale characters and you can play. In the Zuiderzeemuseum you can discover what life used to be like around the former Zuiderzee. A fun treasure hunt for children is available from the VVV tourist office in Enkhuizen. You can climb, swing and slide in the nostalgic Playground Children’s Joy. Even more action? You can in Climbing Park Streekbos and the Blotevoetenpad Gouwe Voeten in Bovenkarspel.

Tip: On a rainy day you can go bowling or climb and clamber at Happy Days in Grootebroek.

Day at the beach or pool

In Enkhuizen and its surroundings you will find fine beaches and swimming pools.

When the weather is nice, you can take a lovely dip in the IJsselmeer while visiting the recreational area Enkhuizerzand. Also in the nearby recreation area Het Streekbos you can take a refreshing dip in the recreational lake. Rain or shine, you can always swim in the Enkhuizerzand recreational pool.

On and around the water

In and around Enkhuizen you can enjoy wonderful boating. You can rent a boat or canoe and explore Enkhuizen and the surrounding villages yourself. But you can also have a boat and take a tour through Enkhuizen’s canals. Would you rather sail on the IJsselmeer? Then step aboard a historic sailing ship for a unique cruise.

Tip: In the summer months, no fewer than three ferry services sail to Stavoren, Urk and Medemblik. On all ferries, you can bring your bicycle on board.

A day of shopping and a sidewalk cafe

Enkhuizen’s cozy downtown is home to a succession of surprising small and large stores. Most of the stores are located in historic and monumental buildings. This makes shopping in Enkhuizen an atmospheric and enjoyable day out! After shopping, enjoy a snack and drink on one of the many terraces.

Tip: In Enkhuizen and the surrounding area, in addition to the weekly market, you will also find other fun and cozy markets.

A day of history

No city has as many national monuments within walking distance of each other as Enkhuizen. When you walk through Enkhuizen you really imagine yourself back in time. Set off with the booklet Stadswandeling Enkhuizen and discover the history of Enkhuizen.

Hooray it’s raining, now you can have a nice…

  • Swim in Recreation Pool Enkhuizerzand.
  • Visit the exhibition Learn from Fish at the Zuiderzee Museum.
  • Have a game of bowling, pool or laser game at Happy Days.
  • Go to the interactive museum Sow to Grow.
  • Take a look inside the knotty City Prison.
  • See the photo exhibition Rondje Westfriesland in the Westerkerk.
  • Take an “IJsselmeer cruise” with one of the ferry services to Medemblik, Urk or Stavoren.
  • Watch a nice movie in the Drommedaris.
  • Admire the ‘Night Watch’ of Enkhuizen in the Zuiderkerk.
  • (Play board games in Herberg de Compagnie.
  • Go to the theme exhibition ‘What went wrong? in the Flessenscheepjesmuseum.
  • Have coffee or lunch in the Mastenbar, Pakhuis 62, the Rijksmagazijn or another nice restaurant.
  • Going to the summer exhibition “Inspired by Nature” at Deer Camp Enkhuizen.

Or.

Get an ice cream at Vivaldi, at the foot of the Drommedaris. After all, it is and remains summer!
