De Librije

This historic public library has retained its own unique character. In the Librije at the south portal of the Westerkerk you will feel like you are in the Golden Age.

The history of the Librije in Enkhuizen goes back to the end of the sixteenth century, although not much has been preserved about its exact origins. In the nineteenth century, the Librije fell into oblivion, but around the turn of the twentieth century it was more or less rediscovered as a monument to science and history.
