Rescuers in the bottle – 200 years of KNRM

The Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM) is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year to exist. This prompted the Bottle Ship Museum, together with bottle ship builder Arij van Waart, to put together an exhibition of bottles with lifeboats and rescue operations. This collection of bottles provides a nice overview of the development that the rescue system has undergone in 200 years. There are fascinating stories behind all those different lifeboats, because since the beginning of the KNRM, courageous volunteers have worked to save people in distress at sea, sometimes at the risk of their own lives.
