IVN Plant Excursion

IVN guide Marco van de Lee will give an excursion to the Naviduct on the Enkhuizen-Lelystad dike on Saturday, July 13 at 1 p.m.

The Enkhuizen Naviduct was completed in 2002; a passage for boats over the highway. A lot of soil was then added around the actual Naviduct from the depths on site and from the Amsterdam-Lemmer shipping channel. This mainly concerns sandy soil, which is very special in our region, which consists of clay soil.

To make the area even more beautiful, herbs were then sown that were adapted to salty and sandy conditions. It is no longer possible to determine which herbs were sown at that time, but for the species currently present you can say that the biotope is apparently suitable for them. And there are probably also species that have established themselves spontaneously.
