Enkhuizen is a very nice destination for a weekend getaway. The historic city is beautiful to walk through. There are cozy restaurants, interesting museums and always plenty of activities to do. Check the calendar to see what’s on during your visit!
We give tips for 3 different weekend getaways:
A weekend away with children
Enkhuizen offers plenty of opportunities for a weekend getaway with the kids. Of course you can visit the nationally known top attractions such as Sprookjeswonderland and the Zuiderzee Museum, but the large playground, swimming pool and petting zoo are also among the possibilities. What does your weekend look like?
Saturday
Start the weekend with a walk through Wilhelminaplantsoen and visit the petting zoo at the Deer Park. Walk on to Westerstraat to visit fun children’s stores and have a delicious lunch at Van Bleiswijk. In the afternoon, enjoy playing at Playground Kindervreugde or visit interactive museum Sow to Grow or the Flessenscheepjesmuseum. End the day with a delicious pizza at Da Renato, Bella Vita or Porto Vecchio. On the way back to your overnight stay, don’t forget to grab an ice cream at Vivaldi or the Ice Cream Queens.
Sunday
The next day, visit Fairytale Wonderland or the Zuiderzee Museum. In both parks there is always plenty to do and you can have a nice lunch. End the afternoon at the Strandpaviljoen. The kids can play in the sand or on the playground equipment, while parents enjoy a bitterball and drink. The menu has something for everyone. The perfect end to a wonderful weekend!
A romantic weekend away
Enkhuizen is perfect for a romantic weekend for two. There are beautiful parks for a walk, cozy terraces and stores and plenty of opportunities to rent a bike or boat. We give an example of an ultimate weekend getaway.
Saturday
Start the weekend with a city walk and discover the nice places of Enkhuizen. The city walk is available at the VVV office at the harbor. Have a nice lunch at the Rijksmagazijn or the Station. In the afternoon walk through the Westerstraat and discover the nice stores. Sit down on a cozy terrace on the Venedie or on the harbor. In the evening, have an extensive dinner at Lounge 18 or at Van Bleiswijk. End the evening with a drink at herberg de Compagnie.
Sunday
Huur een bootje en ontdek Enkhuizen vanaf het water. Meer aan bij de Brasserie voor de lunch. Bezoek in de middag het Flessenscheepjesmuseum of interactief museum Sow to Grow en sluit de dag of met een heerlijke daghap bij Bierbrouwerij de Werf of op het gezellige terras van Dubbel en Dwars.
Rent a boat and explore Enkhuizen from the water. Moor at the Brasserie for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Flessenscheepjesmuseum or interactive museum Sow to Grow and end the day or with a delicious daily snack at Bierbrouwerij de Werf or on the cozy terrace of Dubbel en Dwars.
A cultural weekend away
For lovers of art, culture and fine wine, Enkhuizen is the perfect city for a weekend getaway. There is a friendly atmosphere in Enkhuizen and everything is within walking distance of each other. Zaterdag
Start the weekend with a city walk and discover the nice places of Enkhuizen. The city walk is available at the VVV office at the harbor. Eat a tasty fish at the fish auction. In the afternoon, visit interactive museum Sow to Grow and learn all about seed breeding in Enkhuizen. Have a nice dinner at the Markerwaard and in the evening go to cabaret, theater, music or a great movie at De Drommedaris. End the evening with a drink at the Drombar.
Zondag
Join Rondvaart Enkhuizen and see Enkhuizen from the water. The guide will tell interesting facts about Enkhuizen. The Cruise ends at the Brasserie, the perfect place for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, visit the indoor or outdoor museum of the Zuiderzee Museum. In the Zuiderzee Museum you will find everything about life around and on the former Zuiderzee. End the weekend with a delicious bite to eat at Onder de Wester or Dikke Mik.

Start the summer vacation with a brand new scavenger hunt through Enkhuizen. Especially for elementary school children, we have created a 'Crack the code route' which takes you past special places in Enkhuizen. After about an hour and a half of walking and exploring, you will be back at the starting point and can try to crack the secret code.
